Alaska 2015 - Day 64 - Bonners Ferry Idaho - Columbia Falls Montana

Day 64 – 7-14-15 Tuesday We departed about 7:30AM and stopped to fuel up the motor home. Sure was good to pay less that $3.00 gallon for diesel fuel again. The drive on highway 2 was a nice drive. We soon departed Idaho and was in Montana. The top of Idaho is very narrow.

We stopped at Koontenai Falls parking lot to take a break and view the falls. We thought the falls were just a short distance from the parking lot but it was much farther than expected so we got a good hike but the views were well worth the effort. We have seen a number of waterfalls on this trip but this was the largest size wise of any of them. The Koontenai River is several hundred feet wide and there were all kinds of rock ledges that the water was rushing over and around. The view was quite stunning. Some distance down the river was a swinging bridge over the river. We walked to the swinging bridge. I walked out a few feet just far enough to get some good photos but Lena didn't want anything to do with the swing bridge. This is not our “cup of tea”.

There were some nice ranches and small towns along this route. More what we have envisioned Montana to look like than what we saw when in May.

Lots of hay stacked

We stopped at Columbia Falls RV Park and checked into site 48. We will be here two nights. We tried to get three nights but there was not a site open for three consecutive nights. This is a really well managed RV Park. Nice sized sites with nice green grass and some young trees between the sites. Exceptionally clean RV Park. The lady in the office was very nice. She told us about the butcher shop just outside the park to get fresh meat and also gave us a good plan for visiting Glacier National Park tomorrow. We visited the butcher shop and got some meat.

We took the Jeep to an automated car wash in town and gave it a nice bath. It sure needed it. So does the motor home but will wait on it to we get farther down the road. While in town we went to Pizza Hut and got that personal pan pizza we wanted to get in Jasper Ablerta. This was the nicest Pizza Hut we have ever been in.
