Alaska 2015 - Day 5 Independence MO - Souix Falls SD

Day 5 – 5-16-15 Saturday I didn't mention yesterday that the good thing about all the rain was I didn't have to wash any bugs off the windshield and front end of the MH like I had the previous three nights.

We cooked breakfast and left Independence at 7:20AM. We drove about two hours and stopped for fuel and continued on through Missouri. Lots of very large farms with open fields as far as you could see. We crossed into Iowa and the beautiful farm land continued. Some of the fields by the Interstate were very wet so they must have had some heavy rains recently. The land was kind of rolling with rarely a tree anywhere except some small one near the Interstate. We stopped for a lunch break at a rest stop. The rest stops in Iowa have free WiFi and some also have a free dump station for RV,ers. The roads were in good shape in Missouri and Iowa except for the areas around Omaha. The roads there were really rough. We crossed into South Dakota and stopped for the night in Souix Falls SD at the Souix Empire Fair Grounds Campground about 2PM. It is not quite as nice as it sounded on the Internet but for one night it is okay. The farm land in South Dakota was flatter than in Iowa and Missouri and we saw several very large cattle feed lots with hundreds of cows in them.

The campground host was nice and gave us a site so we didn't have to unhook the toad. We decided to change our stop for tomorrow night so we would have one stop in Wyoming rather than another stop in South Dakota. It will add another 30 miles to tomorrow's drive but we don't have but one town of any size to get through so we should be able to make the 420 mile drive without any delays. There was some road construction today but did not delay us other than just slowing down to a slower speed for a few miles. We have been fortunate to not have any significant roads delays. We were delayed a few minutes yesterday for a auto accident where a 18 wheeler and a car didn't play nice with each other. We noticed in Iowa when they repair a large section of road or bridge on the Interstate they rip the whole road up and completely repave it.

Well it is time to go out and wash today's bug off the front end.
