Day
4 – 5-15-15 Friday Yesterday as we were nearing our destination for
the night we knew we would be entering Central Time Zone. Our Rand
McNally GPS lets us know when we cross time zones and also our cell
phones automatically change to the correct time. Well in period of
about 30 minutes we crossed into and out of the Central Time Zone 4
times. I would guess the people that live in that area must get
confused as to what time it is.
We
broke camp at 7AM and stopped at the dump station to dump the holding
tanks rather than deal with the problem at our site. Then we drove
about 15 miles and stopped at a Pilot Flying J Truck Stop to fill up
the MH with diesel fuel and have breakfast at the Denny's Restaurant
inside. Great breakfast of Belgium Waffles, sausage/bacon and
scrambled eggs with coffee. After driving for a couple of hours we
stopped for a break at a rest stop. The roads were mostly good except
for construction around St. Louis Missouri. I finished my computer
schooling here about 48 years ago. The town is huge by my standards
and traffic everywhere on the 10 lane roads through town. I sure was
glad to get out of that town. After stopping for lunch at a rest stop
we started getting rain. Between St. Louis and Independence (just
East of Kansas City) Missouri we drove in rain for about 2 hours –
sometime very hard rain and very bad side wind gusts. I was glad to
get to our stopping place for the night – a Walmart in Independence
Missouri. We needed to get a few things and this made it convenient
plus we didn't have to unhook the toad.
Some
of you are probably wondering why we don't use a regular campground
every night. We normally do but the goal of this part of the trip is
to get from point A (home) to point B (just before crossing the
Canadian border. The Sam's Club we used and this Walmart was just a
short distance from the Interstate for easy on/off so they were
convenient, fairly level and free. We are just stopping to rest and
sleep not sight see in the area. This is a hotly discussed topic on
the RV Forums. Oh well, to each his own. I have a smartphone app that list all the Wal-Marts
and whether or not overnight parking is allowed. We always check with
the store management to make sure that it is okay and where to park.
