Cedar Point NC - NC Seafood Festival Oct. 5-11, 2017

Day 1 Thursday October 5, 2017 We left the house at 1:15PM for the drive to Cedar Point Campground near Swansboro NC for a few days. We will be attending the NC Seafood Festival as vendors again this year to sell my wood crafts as we have for the last few years. We are hoping for good weather this year. We had to cancel in 2015 due to a hurricane and on Friday in 2016 it rained off an on most of the day and we had to shut down 3 or 4 times. We arrived and set up in site 32 and took the opportunity to relax the remainder of the day because we will be busy the next three days with the festival.

Day 2 Friday October 6, 2017 We got up early and was at the Festival location in Morehead City by 8AM. We unloaded all our stuff as soon as we got to our assigned location and then I took the truck to the parking lot. Then I returned to our spot and we got everything set up and were ready well ahead of the 12 Noon opening time. The weather was good but the sales were way down for our normal Friday. We closed down just before dark and returned to the campground a little disappointed.

Day 3 Saturday October 7, 2017 We returned to the festival and was ready before the 10AM opening time. Again the weather was nice but until around 1PM the sales were really disappointing. But then sales picked up and we finished the day with just $8 less than last year for a Saturday.

We had one customer that acted like a real axxhole. We sell Salt and Pepper shaker sets and also small and larger pepper mills. He wanted to buy just the salt shaker without the matching pepper shaker and one of the small pepper mills. I told him the salt and pepper shakers were sold as a set ( I try to match the wood in each set). He got really “snotty” and said he would not buy anything if he had to but the set as he only wanted the salt shaker and the pepper mill, so since the customer is always tight, I told him okay. When I totaled up the sale he didn't want to pay the sales tax since he was paying cash. I told him I had to turn in the sales tax to the state or risk a fine. Then he said if he had to pay the sale tax he wanted a written receipt. I gave him one but I don't know what good that was going to do him because I didn't put my name on it. I guess he thought I was collecting sales tax and not reporting cash sales. We have never had a customer like that before. Oh well!

Day 4 Sunday October 8, 2017 We again were ready ahead of the 11AM opening today. Usually on Sunday many people come out early and browse the open booths before the crowds arrive but usually Sunday is our lowest sales day but today was the best Sunday sales we have ever had and we ended the festival with $45 more in sales that last year, so we were rather shocked after how slow sales were Friday and about half of Saturday. The festival ended at 5PM and we were packed and loaded and on the way back to the campground by 6:30PM very tired and ready for a shower.

We didn't get any rain or gusty winds this year, just sunshine and gentle breezes off the water that was just down the street from our spot.

Day 5 Monday October 9, 2017 We went to the C&S Paint Store nearby to order some product I want to try to finish my wood bowls with. A fellow woodworker told me about it. Then we picked up some groceries and returned to the campground where we relaxed and read the remainder of the day.

Day 6 Tuesday October 10, 2017 Mid morning we returned to the paint store after the manger called me that my product had arrived, then we stopped at Dukin Donuts to get a coffee and a treat before we returned to the campground. About the time I was going to put some steaks on the grill a cloud came up and it drizzled rain for an hour or so, then I grilled the steaks. We took a walk around the campground and then did some more reading.

We like this campground and have stayed here several times. It is quite and small as it only has 39 sites counting the three double sites and the street is paved and all sites have 50/30/20 AMP power and the parking pad is paved. There is plenty of space between the sites. No water or sewer hookups but there is water hydrants scattered throughout the campground and they have a nice dump station and a potable water station where a camper can fill up their fresh water tank.

Day 7 Wednesday October 11, 2017 We packed up, dumped our holding tanks and departed for home about 9:30AM.
