Day 32 Friday August 27, 2021 Well Happy Birthday to me, 37 and counting. We returned to Saddle Mountain Cafe for breakfast for my birthday. We both had the 3 egg omelet. Yummy. We returned to the Resort via some back roads. Gregg and Judi came over and we visited for awhile and made plans to go to the Rex Theater in Galax tonight for a music show.
Gregg and Judi picked us up about 6PM and we drove to Galax. The Blueridge Girls Bluegrass Band were performing tonight at the Rex Theater. They were three young women that made up the group. Each one could play multiple instruments and two of them sang. They sang several songs that one of the group had written. They all were very talented. They said they all came from musical families. As I have said before, I think the people in this area must just drink the local water and they can play musical instruments. We have been in this area many times and of course drink the water but we can't play a note. Maybe we have not drank enough of the water. Several of the local people get up and do what is called “Flatfoot Dancing”.
Day 33 Saturday August 28, 2021 Yesterday we made plans for all of us to go back to the Briarpatch Coffee Shop one more time before we all leave tomorrow. Their coffee and cinnamon buns are very good. We sat and talked until about 11AM, then returned to the Resort. Gregg and Judi came in our motorhome and stayed with us until about 5PM. Lena fixed us all a good steak & cheese sub for lunch. We really have enjoyed visiting with Gregg & Judi. We seem to have a lot in common in addition to our very similar motorhomes.
Day 34 Sunday August 29, 2021 We packed up and departed the Resort about 11AM and drove about 75 miles to Tanglewood Campground in Clemmons NC. We have stayed here several times. We had reserved site 12. We prefer site 10 or 11 but they were reserved when I booked our stay here. Site 12 is sloped in the rear which required us to put our wood risers under the rear wheels and pads under the rear jacks but that only took about 5 minutes. This campground was totally remodeled a few years ago, before we started coming here. They did a really good job on most of it. The streets and sites are paved and the sites are spacious but they really messed up several sites by not making them anywhere near level to the degree they are almost unusable. The campground is part of a county park that is really nice. There are two dog parks, nice paved walking/bicycle path, horse stables, swimming pools, golf course and amphitheater, fishing ponds, etc.
We got some sad news after we got setup and was having lunch. A couple that we met while on the Maritimes Caravan in 2019, that we became friends with were in Indiana getting new tires and batteries for their motorhome. They had that done on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday morning about 30 miles from where they had the work done they were involved in a traffic accident and their motorhome was severely damaged (probably totaled) plus their Toad was also damaged but still drive able. But they were not injured. The other driver was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
When we were pulling up to our site we noticed a motorhome in the site right behind us that looked a lot like the 2006 Tiffin Phaeton (WE-2Bs version 2) we sold in September 2019 just after we purchased the motorhome we have now. But we have seen others that also looked like it so we didn't think to much about it. Later in the evening we were walking around the campground looking at all the sites. We walked down the street in front of this motorhome so we stopped to get a better look at it. Then we realized that is was our former motorhome. I knocked on the door and the lady (Delores) came to the door. She didn't recognize us, maybe because I don't wear glasses now since my cataract surgeries and Lena's wears her hair longer. I said to her this was our former motorhome. Delores said they had bought it from Dolan & Lena and I said that's us and then she recognized us and invited us in to visit. What are the odds that our former motorhome would be parked in the site right behind us almost two years after we sold it. The owners are from Plymouth NC. They said they are really enjoying the motorhome. We invited them to come over and see ours tomorrow.
Day 35 Monday August 30, 2021 About mid morning Delores and Fred came over to look at our motorhome and visit awhile. They are here with a small RV group that they travel with.
Later we set outside and did some reading since the big oak trees here in the park provide good shade and there was a light breeze blowing. A new 2022 motorhome setup in site 13 beside us and he was having trouble with his leveling jacks. The dealer sent a repairman out and he worked on it 2-3 hours but was not able to fix them but was able to get them retracted so it could be driven.
Day 36 Tuesday August 31, 2021 The man in site 13 came over and told us about the problems he was having with his leveling jacks. He said this is their first RV so he has a lot to learn. They only live about 30 miles from here and had come here to practice with the motorhome before they go on a trip with it, which is a very smart thing to do. I showed him some things I had made to use under the wheels and jacks to help when sitting up on a site that was unlevel that would help and also a electronic sensor that I have added to tell me how unlevel the site is before I put our jacks down. He thanked me and then left with the motorhome to take it to the dealer so they can work on it at their shop.
Lena called some friends that live in Greensboro so they came to visit and we all went to Clemmons Kitchen for lunch. We met them when we were in a PT Cruiser car club years ago and we have been camping with them when they had a RV. Fred had told us it was good and he was right and the portions plentiful.
The neighbors in site 13 returned later in the day with the motorhome and then just after nightfall he came over and knocked on our door and gave us a bottle of wine to thanks us for sharing the information I gave him about the leveling aids. He had gone home and made some of the leveling aids I had showed him. The dealer still don't have his problem fixed so he has to carry it back for them to work on it again.
It started raining just before night so we put our chairs and mats up because we are headed home Thursday morning and it is supposed to rain about all day tomorrow.
Day 37 Wednesday September 1, 2021 It is still drizzling rain. We drove a couple of miles to a coffee shop we found on the Internet. The Latte and chocolate eclair was good but it was so cold inside the coffee shop we didn't stay long after we drank our coffee. We returned to the campground and relaxed and did some reading the rest of the day. Later we were able to get a short walk around the campground in before more rain came.
Day 38 Thursday September 2, 2021 We finished our departure prep and pulled out at 9:45AM and headed home. We stopped in Greensboro at the Farmers Market for some vegetables and peaches and at McGees Crossroads to take a break and get some lunch at Bojangles before arriving home about 3PM. We were thankful to arrive home safely with no travel issues other than a couple of traffic issues.
This has been a really good trip. Kind of like a get acquainted with old friends and acquaintances trip plus visiting some areas that we have never been to and lots of good food.
