Creation Museum & Ark Encounter September 27 - October 3, 2021

Day 1 Monday September 27, 2021 Today was the start of another adventure as we departed home at 8 AM for a trip to Kentucky to tour the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter. We have been hearing a lot about these two attractions and finally we are headed that way. After stopping in Wallace to fuel up the motorhome and ourselves we began our journey. Like we often do we stopped in Greensboro at the Farmers Market to get some fresh vegetables from the Walker Farms stand. The lady their recognized us from our last stop there.

Several miles down the road we experienced a small case of “Road Rage”. We were traveling in the right lane of a four lane divided highway about 60 MPH. As we were passing a rather short on ramp there was a car that came down the ramp to get on the highway. I was not able to move over to the left lane because an 18 wheeler was coming up beside me. The driver in the car on the on ramp didn't speed up to get ahead of me or slow down to pull in behind me but when the driver ran out of road they had to hit their breaks and then they blew their horn letting me know they weren't happy with me for not moving over so they could get in. What was I supposed to do run the 18 wheeler off the road or slam on my brakes and risk a rear end collision from someone behind me. Well when they came around me in the left lane the driver threw a large fountain drink cup out the passenger window that hit the side of our motorhome. I let the driver hear my air horns so they would know I knew what they did. Some privileged people just don't seem to understand the meaning of a Yield sign.

We arrived at Brushcreek Falls RV Resort in Princeton WV and was setup by 3PM. We were in pull through site 30. I asked for a pull through so we wouldn't have to disconnect the toad and reconnect it in the morning since we are only staying here one night. This is a nice campground but I wouldn't really call it a resort. It is a few hundred yards from the interstate highway but we drove down a 2 mile narrow road that runs parallel to the interstate to get to the resort.

Day 2 Tuesday September 28, 2021 We departed the resort at 8AM and headed for Rising Sun Indiana where we will stay 5 nights. We will visit the Creation Museum from this site and probably some other interesting places if we can find any.

We had to deal with a lot of road construction in West Virginia and rode several roads that really needed some construction. The drive through the mountains was pretty but required a lot of attention to my driving with all the curves, hills, road construction and traffic.

We got to our destination and got setup about 3PM. We are staying at Rising Star Casino Campground, right on the edge of the little town of Rising Sun, Indiana. They have 50 concrete paved campsites on the grounds of the Casino and Hotel. We don't plan to visit the casino but the campground was one of the best in the area of the Creation Museum.

Day 3 Wednesday September 29, 2021 With the campsite we get two tickets each day to breakfast at Ben's Bistro in the Rising Star Casino main building and also access to the inside pool if we want to use it. We didn't know what to expect but had read some reviews that stated the breakfast was not much but we decided to check it out anyway. The reviews were not wrong. We expected to at least be able to sit down and eat the breakfast......no they gave us each a Styrofoam carryout box with scrambled eggs, ham and biscuit and a doughnut and choice of juice or water. So we returned to the motorhome to eat. The eggs were very dry and bland, the ham was about ½'' thick and the doughnut was not very fresh but what the heck it was free, except for the tip I left the ladies at the counter. We don't plan to use our other four days of tickets.

After we finished breakfast we drove about 20 miles to the Creation Museum. The Senior rate was $34.95 each plus $10 parking fee. So for two people expect to spend about $120.00 for the day if you purchase lunch in the cafe. We got there about 9:30AM and departed about 4:30PM. We viewed In Six Days, a video presentation in 4D featuring highlights from the movie Genesis:Paradise Lost, uphold the truth of God's Word beginning in Genesis. We all had to wear special glasses to watch the video.

After lunch we viewed the video The Last Adam. In between we toured the exhibits and story panels on the two floors of the facility. I don't really have the words to describe all the exhibits and panels except that everything was based on God's creation and the Bible. Some really talented people worked on this facility. Noah's Ark exhibit was very interesting to me, as I am a woodworker. Some of Noah's construction techniques are still in use today. We ate lunch in Noah's Cafe. We were kind of surprised how good the food was since it was prepared and wrapped and in display cabinets. I got a cup of chili and Lena got a small salad, soup and we shared a pulled pork sandwich. It was all fresh and very good, pricey, but good.

After lunch we set in on a live presentation of Creatures of the Night | Animal Encounter. One of the onsite zoo keeper gave a talk about several animals and a anaconda they have in the onsite zoo while another zoo keeper walked around the audience with the animals and the anaconda holding it in her hands and around her neck.

The grounds at Museum were very well landscaped and their onsite zoo was small but had several animals on display. There was also a Zip Line but I couldn't get Lena to try it. Actually no one was taking the Zip Line. I guess it is a thing for younger people and there were not many young people touring the Museum today.

Visiting the Creation Museum was another Bucket List Item. We won't get all of our Bucket List completed but plan to get as many as possible while we are able to visit all the beautiful and interesting place in this country.

We returned to the campground after a good day but we were ready to kick our shoes off and  get a good bowl of ice cream and relax the remainder of the day.

Day 4 Thursday September 30, 2021 Well Happy 54th Anniversary to us and they said it wouldn't last.

We drove down the street to a small coffee shop to try their Lattes. They were okay but nothing to brag about. Actually we tried two coffee shops this morning. We didn't know the little town of Rising Sun had but one, but we found another one when we were riding around. We tried it also and it was a little better and they had a few baked goods also.

The town of Rising Sun sits right on the banks of the Ohio River. We watched a large cargo barge being pushed down the river. There are some old buildings in town facing the river. Some of the historical markers at the river side memorial site talked about fires in town in the late 1800's that burned many of the old buildings. There is one old log cabin that was the home of a cousin of Robert Fulton, who designed and operated the first steamboat. The cabin is still a private residence. It was built as a residence and was also the town post office at one time.

We treated ourselves to lunch at Tequila's  Mexican Restaurant downtown on Main Street. The food was very good.

Late in the day we went back down to the riverfront to get some more photos of the plaques and war memorials they have along the waterfront. The sun this morning was creating a lot of reflection.

Day 5 Friday October 1, 2021 We came through a small town about 7 miles from Rising Sun named Aurora Sunday on our way here. It also looked like it had some interesting old buildings in it and they were preparing for some kind of event downtown because they had some of the streets blocked off. So we decided to go there and check it out.

They are having a Farmers Fair most of the week downtown. It doesn't start daily until noon so we were able to walk the streets and take several photos without people getting in the way. They had the most murals painted on the sides of buildings we have ever seen. Several of the old buildings had the upstairs windows painted with small murals rather than having the windows boarded up.

After walking all over the old part of town we drove to Dunkin Donuts and got a Latte and a couple of donuts. We took some back roads on the way to the campground. Several more campers came in this afternoon but the campground still is only about ½ full.

Day 6 Saturday October 2, 2021 After breakfast we went back to Aurora to watch the Farmers Fair Parade that started at 10AM. We got a good spot to stand right where the parade came up one street and then turn right down Main Street so I was able to get some good photos. There were a lot of units in the parade and it lasted about a hour and 15 minutes. There were some from Indiana of course and also some from Kentucky and Ohio. We are right across the Ohio River from Kentucky and Ohio border is not very far away.

Johnny Bench the well know Baseball player

Later in the evening we drove to the riverfront in Rising Star to take a few more photos of things we missed when we were here a few days ago.

Day 7 Sunday October 3, 2021 It rained early before daybreak and more is expected later today. We packed up and departed Rising Star Resort at 10:50AM and headed to Whispering Hills RV Park in Georgetown KY which is a 88 mile drive.

We will visit the Ark Encounter from here. It rained about half of the way and we had just got checked in and setup when a thunderstorm rolled through with a lot of rain. It will probably rain most of the day and into the night.
