Day 141 Saturday September 17, 2022 We chewed up another 274 miles today. Not much to report on except we are seeing more familiar crops today like soybeans and corn. We fueled up at a TA Truck Stop. We will need one more fuel stop before home.
Then went across the street to the Joy O RV Park and “o' boy was it a joy”. Not much to chose from in this area of Tennessee. The online reviews were a little generous I thought but it is only an overnight and we got a pull-through so we didn't need to unhook the Jeep and reconnect in the morning so that was nice. All but 3-4 of the sites look like the occupants stay here long term and some appear to be people working jobs in the area and rather than staying in a hotel they get an RV to stay in as they move from job to job. I don't blame them a hotel room gets old in a hurry.
Lena put some ribs in the slow cooker this morning so while we traveled they cooked so we had a good hot meal after we got setup about 1:30PM.
Day 142 Sunday September 18, 2022 When I went to disconnect our water hose this morning I found out that the park's water hydrant is leaking underground when it is turned on. I noticed yesterday that the ground around the hydrant was discolored and someone had put a door mat on the ground by the hydrant. So that tells me it has been leaking awhile and the park owner has not bothered to get it fixed. There was water pooling all around the hydrant and out near the electrical pedestal and the electrical pedestal does not have a breaker to switch off before I disconnect the power cord so I am unplugging standing on wet ground without turning off the power source first, not a good idea but had no choice.
Our drive today was only 151 miles for a one night stay at Two Rivers RV Park in Nashville TN. Lena wants to go see the Johnny Cash Museum in downtown Nashville. We setup in site 213 about 11:30 and called the Downtown Shuttle service for a pickup at 1PM for a ride downtown. They will take you downtown and bring you back for $10 a person. That is a good deal because if you can find parking downtown you have to pay for it and then you have to fight the traffic also.
It was only a couple of blocks from the drop off point to the museum and right beside the museum is the Johnny Cash Bar & BBQ place. We had planned to eat there but the live band that was playing was so loud it made our heads hurt so we walked on down the street and ate at the Sun Diner.
The Patsy Cline Museum is on the second floor of the same building as the Johnny Cash Museum but it is a separate fee to see it so we only did the Johnny Cash Museum which was $52.33 for two but it was an interesting museum. It took about 1.5 hours to tour it.
Downtown Nashville is a noisy place, with all kinds of modes of transportation, buses, hop on hop off tour buses, shuttle vans, battery powered scooters you rent, gold carts tours, pedal bike tours, and pedal bars. Out shuttle bus was later than expected picking us up and was a different driver and bus. The other driver was in an accident after he dropped us off. A lady ran into him as she was coming up an on ramp while talking on her cell phone and ran right into him.
Day 143 Monday September 19, 2022 Our drive to Creekwood Farm RV Park outside Waynesville NC was 266 miles. On the way we stopped at the new Buc-ees Convenience Store that has just been completed. Most of the Buc-ees are in Texas but have recently expanded into Tennessee.
If you have never heard of Buc-ees google it or check Youtube for some videos. It is huge as convenience stores goes and has about 100 fuel pumps. They sell about every snacks food item know to mankind I think, plus several types of coffee, but no Lattes or Cappuccinos. They had lots of fresh fruit cups, fudge, BBQ sandwiches, brisket and lots of other sandwiches. But there are no tables to sit down and eat inside or outside. I guess they want you to buy what you want and leave. They have a huge parking lot and not one space big enough for a large RV and there were several there getting fuel or like us parked across regular parking spaces to go inside. I knew they don't allow 18 wheelers in the parking lot. I guess the reason they don't have big RV spots is they don't want to encourage RV parking over night. Because there are some “so-called” RVers that abuse the opportunity of free overnight parking by putting down their leveling jack, their awning and lawn chairs and yes even breaking out their bbq grills in the parking lot of places like WalMart that does allow overnight parking in some towns.
Creekwood RV Park is a nice RV Park on the banks of a small creek. Lots of trees and nice landscaping. They have a nice shelter near the creek and rocking chairs and a swing that the guest can set beside the creek and relax. Nice meeting room, laundry and really nice bathrooms. We would like to come back here and check out the Maggie Valley area some more.
Day 144 Tuesday September 20, 2022 It was really foggy this morning so we waited until about 9:30 to leave after some of the fog had burned off. We only had 166 miles to drive to Tanglewood Park Campground in Clemmons. This is a city owned campground and is just one of several things in the 1,100 acre park. We have stayed here several times. Our new GPS warned us about a closure on I40 with a 50 minute delay and suggested a detour so we took it and saved about 30 minutes of delay.
We got to the campground about 1PM and setup in site 15. It was slopped to the rear so much we could not get level even after putting 3” of ramps under the rear wheels. We usually get sites 10, 11 or 12 but they were not available. They did a good job on the campground when there redid it several years ago except they really didn't get several sites anywhere near level. They are so slopped we have never seen them used. They really need to come back and correct that.
Day 145 Wednesday September 21, 2022 We treated ourselves on our last travel day to a Latte and some donuts at Krispy Creme in Clemmons before we departed for the final leg of our trip home.
We got home about 2PM and were glad to be home after being gone since April 29th. We feel so blessed to be able to take this trip and are most thankful for a safe journey.
We have stayed 144 nights in RV Parks/Campgrounds
