Day 1 Thursday April 1, 2021 We finally got a chance to use the Motorhome again after 5 month hiatus. We departed at 10AM for a short 85 mile drive to RVacation Campground at Selma NC. We stayed here for a few nights several years ago with our first Motorhome. We arrived at 11:30AM and was guided to site F4 (a drive through site) by a staff member.
We are out of practice so we were kind of slow setting up but we had no reason to be in a hurry. I tried to pick a site that had a clear view of the sky so our satellite receiver could get a signal. The satellite receiver could not lock onto a signal. There was a tall pine tree across from us that is probably blocking the signal so I did a scan for the local channels to check out the TVs with local stations.
We had a light lunch and relaxed until mid afternoon when we rode into Selma about 1.5 miles away to a coffee shop I found on Yelp called Coffee on Raiford. We both had a Latte and shared a good cinnamon bun while we read. We really liked to way the coffee shop was setup and complimented the lady working there. Her and her brother own it. They bought the building and had to do major renovations that they had planned to take two years but when COVID hit her brother was laid off from his job so they had more time to work on the shop and got it done in one year. They opened in September 2020 and have been doing good ever since. There are several small tables with chairs, a fairly large main room, one little cozy room with a table and two chairs and a back room with chairs and a large sofa. All the lights had stain glass globes on them and the walls had several paintings and a number of scroll saw cut wood designs by a local woodworker.

We returned to the campground to read and relax the remainder of the day. It seems good to be able to get away and relax from all the things that have been happening the last several months.
Day 2 Friday April 2, 2021 After breakfast we drove up the road to the shopping outlets. Lena wanted to update her wardrobe but the one store she wanted to shop in had closed down so we rode around for awhile and came back to have lunch at Cracker Barrel. We had a gift card from Christmas to use. We had a 45 minute wait which is a long time for us to wait at a restaurant but it was worth it. After lunch we returned to the campground for the day. The temperature was expected to be down to 28 degrees so I disconnected our water line so it would not freeze.
Day 3 Saturday April 3, 2021 We decided to get out and do some exploring so we drove over to Peacocks Crossroads to checkout a roadside antique yard sale. We checked it out but didn't find anything we couldn't live without so we drove on into Benson and stopped at a coffee shop for a coffee and a muffin. Afterwards we continued on down some country back roads and stopped at another flea market/produce stand. We passed the factories for Bright Leaf Wieners and House Autry Mills. By the way Bright Leaf wieners are the best wieners made in my opinion. Still didn't find any treasures so we returned to the campground to enjoy the much warmer weather. We did a little walk around part of the campground and set outside and enjoyed the sunshine until the air cooled off.
I don't think this wrecker could tow our motorhome |
Day 4 Sunday April 4, 2021 Easter Sunday. A lazy day, as we didn't do much today. A couple next to us was having issues with their site sewage connection when they were getting ready to leave. I was walking by and the lady started telling me about their issue. They had moved to the site next to it to dump their sewage. I had noticed the man was in a wheelchair. She said they had just got the camper from a manufacture in Indiana and it was handicap accessible. The man drove and the driver's seat would swing out of the truck and then he pushed a button and the cover over the bed of the truck raised up and his wheelchair swung out and he could get from the driver's seat to the wheelchair and wheel himself around. She said they had a three year old daughter and the handicap accessible camper had just opened their world up to lots of new adventures.
Late in the morning we drove round some of the local back roads and drove thru Pine Level, which took all of about 5 minutes. Hinnant Family Vineyards is just outside Pine Level. We stopped there several years ago when we were staying at the same campground. It is also a Muscadine Grape Vineyards like Duplin Winery near our home. We were getting hungry so we stopped at Denny's in Selma for lunch. Us and a couple that was also waiting for a table got a good chuckle when a Pizza Hut driver came in with a delivery for the staff at Denny's. I guess they get tired of eating Denny's food and wanted something different. They were very busy but we were seated in about 15 minutes. We returned to the campground after a good lunch and set outside and enjoyed the sunshine and warmer weather.
Day 5 Monday April 5, 2021 Another lazy day as we had nothing planned for today so we walked around the campground and watched the ducks playing in the large pond beside the campground. I got my new camera out and took some photos of a mocking bird in a tree on our site and the ducks playing in the pond. The weather is perfect so we are enjoying our little trip. The pollen is bad but that is expected this time of the year.
This campground has several long term campers. We expect some of them are working in the area on construction jobs. Some places we have been that excepted long term campers were rather trashy and untidy but it is not that way here. And there is a constant turnover of campers coming in and leaving. The campground is just off I95 which is a super busy Interstate that runs North and South alone the East Coast so this campground provide a good place to stay that is easy to get to and has lots of pull through sites which is good if a camper does not want to unhook their tow vehicle or tow car.
Day 6 Tuesday April 6, 2021 Well it was another even lazier day. We didn't even leave the campground, just relaxed, read and enjoyed the beautiful weather and all the pollen that is flying around. We have some mockingbirds that keep us serenaded with songs for most of the day. By late in the day most of the sites were full with campers..
Day 7 Wednesday April 7, 2021 Most of the campers that checked in yesterday are gone this morning. The temperature is getting warmer so we had to turn the air conditioner on in the motorhome. We needed to test them anyway since they hadn't been run in awhile. We relaxed again today knowing tomorrow we return home where some work awaits us.
Day 8 Thursday April 8, 2021 After breakfast we prepared everything for our departure. We departed at 9:50AM for home and arrived about noon after stopping for lunch at Bojangles in Wallace. We had a good relaxing trip. Everything on the motorhome worked and we got to relax for a few days after a very strange year.
