Myrtle Beach March 17-20, 2016

Day 1 - Thursday  March 17, 2016 We departed at 10AM for a weekend in Myrtle Beach, SC. We were meeting friends from Goldsboro and Greensboro to attend a large car show in Myrtle Beach. We arrived at Myrtle Beach State Park about 1:45PM and checked in with the campground host. After checking in we went to our reserved site – 210 on circle 5.

When I pulled up to our site I was a little concerned that we would have trouble getting into the site since the street was narrow and there were trees on both sides of the site near the street. I was able to get in the site on the second attempt with no problems. We don't particularly like the site. They have recently put crushed rock/marl on the site and it is not level front to back and the site is small. Sometime it is difficult to pick a good site from the information provided on the Internet. With some effort we were able to get the motor home leveled.

We tried to fix a quick lunch but our induction hot plate would not work so we drove a few miles to Camping World to get a new one. After lunch we walked over to visit with our friends for awhile. On the way back to our site we stopped and talked to a couple from Alaska that was visiting the lower 48.

Day 2 – Friday March 18, 2016 We could not get our coffee maker to work this morning. So what else if going to fail. After breakfast, John, Dean and I departed for the car show. Nancy, Kathy, Lena and Nancy's daughters family all went shopping. I estimated that there was 10 acres of ground covered in all kinds of classic cars of every make, model and color. Several were for sale at rather hefty prices I thought.  The owners had put a lot of money and time in restoring some of the cars and trucks.

There were a number of “Rat Rods”. A Rat Rod is a vehicle that is made from whatever the builder can piece together. For example there was one that the front bumper was a blade from an old farm mowing machine and it had a sun visor made from a cross-cut saw. The seat in one was a section of metal stadium seats. There are kind of comical to look at.

We returned to the campground about 2PM and still had not seen all the cars. Lena and the ladies returned from shopping about 4PM. Later we drove to Calabash for a great seafood dinner before retiring for the night. On the way back we stopped at Bed Bath and Beyond to get a coffee maker but they did not have the one we wanted.

Somebody like seafood
Day 3 – Saturday March 19, 2016 We got the coffee maker to work this morning, so we are glad we didn't buy one last night. We made breakfast and relaxed/read most of the morning. We cooked a steak in the small cast iron Dutch Oven, then I got the bicycles out and we rode around the campground and down to the beach along the boardwalk.

Later in the evening we all got together and talked until about dark.

The pollen is really bad, so everything is covered in yellow pollen.

Day 4 – Sunday March 20, 2016 It sprinkled rain about daybreak, just enough to spot up the pollen on everything. We are glad it didn't rain much because the gravel/marl on this site is not packed very good and the rain would have made it softer and might have caused a problem getting out.

We finished breakfast and then it began to rain harder so we hurried up and was able to depart by 10AM for home. It rained just enough to keep the wipers on all the way home. But we arrived safely about 1:45PM after a nice weekend with friends.
