We departed at 7:10AM on a much anticipated trip that will last until August 31, 2017. After a stop at Bojangles in Wallace for breakfast we headed for Deer Creek Motorcoach Resort near Galax, VA. After about 3 hours of driving we stopped at the Farmers Market in Greensboro to rest and get a few fresh vegetables and some lunch. We arrived at the resort at 1:45PM. Shortly after getting to our site we were greeted by Ed, one of the lot owners that is representing the Ambassador's Program. All the lots are privately owned after having been purchased from the developer. In order to own or rent a lot here you must own a Class A motorhome that is at least 34' long. There are several sites that the owners are trying to sell and the resort has an Ambassador's Program that helps the owners sell their lots. The people we are renting site 64 from got us three nights free rent by bringing us in through this program because they are trying to sell the site we are renting plus the one right beside it. So we only had to pay for 7 of the 10 nights we will be staying here. Ed and his wife took us around the resort on a golf cart and showed us all the sites for sale, the owners club house that we have full access to, the fishing pond and the 3 hole golf course. We didn't tell him we were not looking to buy anything, even though this is the nicest place we have ever stayed in our motorhome.
After relaxing and reading for awhile we walked around the resort and stopped and talked to some of the owners. Everyone is really friendly. The weather is really nice so it was nice to be outside without wilting.

Day 2 Wednesday August 2, 2017 We donned some walking shoes and did some walking around the resort. There are 69 sites here. As we walked we took note of the sites that are available to rent from the owners. Of the 10 that are available to rent we like the one we have rented the best and the rent is the cheapest plus we got three free nights.

After some breakfast we did a little driving around the area and then stopped for coffee, went to Walmart for a few groceries and stopped for lunch at a mexican restaurant before returning to the resort for the rest of the day.
Day 3 Thursday August 3, 2017 We drove to Galax to visit Fox's Cones N Coffee for breakfast consisting of a large Latte and a mouth watering Cinnamon Bun. Afterwards we browsed the antique shop next door. On the way back to the resort we checked out an alternate route from I77 to the resort for future trips if we decide to come back to this resort. The remainder of the day was relaxing, reading, talking to some of the neighbors in the resort and walking around the resort.

Day 4 Friday August 4, 2017 After lunch we went to the Blue Ridge Music Center a few miles up the Blue Ridge Parkway from where we are staying. They have a nice museum about music of the region and a music jam on the breezeway every day from Noon to 4PM. We stayed for a couple of hours and listen to the music and singing. There were about 15 musician sitting around the circle taking turns leading a song. Anyone came come up and join them. The man (Ed) at the resort where we are staying that met us and showed us around the resort when we got here Tuesday was one of the musicians.
We went to a restaurant near the resort for some seafood for supper and then drove to Galax to the Rex Theater for their Friday night music show that is broadcast on the radio. The band that was playing were playing Old Time music and there were lots of people flatfoot dancing on the floor between the seats and the stage. We didn't enjoy this music as much as the regular Blue Grass Music.
Day 5 Saturday August 5, 2017 We drove 50 miles North along the Blue Ridge Parkway to the town of Floyd, VA. They are well know in the area for the music performed in the Old Country Store. Friday night is the most popular night but it is usually standing room only and we didn't want to stand up so we decided to check it out on Saturday. They have a cafe in the old store, old time “penny” candy like Mary Jane, etc. and T-shirts, CDs and of course a stage for the performers. We listened to a man playing Chet Adkins style music while we ate our BBQ lunch. Afterwards we walked around town, checked out an antique store and then found a coffee shop up on the second floor of an old building. Lena found a painted rock that had “Floyd Rocks” painted on it. It is part of the current painted rock craze that is sweeping the country. Then we returned to the resort via the parkway. This stretch is really pretty. There are numerous farms that come right up to the parkway that have nice clean hay fields, lots of cattle and neat houses.
Day 6 Sunday August 6, 2017 We relaxed all morning before taking an afternoon drive along some of the backroads in the area. We came out in Sparta NC and then came back along the Blue Ridge Parkway. At 5:45PM us and some of our neighbors here in the resort walked across to the Cool Breeze Campground that borders the resort to listen to the Shadowgrass Bluegrass Band, The owner of the campground occasionally has groups playing Bluegrass music and invites the people from the resort to come over and join in. There were 4 guys in the band, one was 12 and played the bass, one was 13 was lead singer and played the guitar, one was 16 and played banjo and the other was 17 and played mandolin. They were very talented musicians. The 13 year old had won several music competitions and had won the guitar he was playing in one of the competitions.
